Rosetta is a land steward and raptor care specialist at Flat Rock Brook. She previously taught middle and high school biology, environmental and earth sciences for 13 years. Prior to teaching, she worked for New York City Parks & Recreation and Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology at Washington University in St. Louis, MO and a Master’s degree in Systematics and Ecology from the University of Kansas.

 

 

 

Naturalist
Hae-young Chun

As a Naturalist, Hae-young’s responsibilities include leading educational and family programs at Flat Rock Brook (FRB) and local schools. Before FRB, she served for over ten years as a teacher and the director of children’s ministry, summer camp, and educational outreach programs at her church. Prior to this, she worked on the corporate side, developing trade processing systems for Wall Street firms, providing management consulting services to global companies, and managing the finance and operations of a consulting start-up. 

She is concerned about environmental issues and is very excited to work at FRB, where she enjoys hiking almost every week.

 

 

 

 

Accountant
Reed DuBow

Reed is responsible for the accounting function at Flat Rock Brook. She holds a BA in Accounting and French from Muhlenberg College as well as a Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). She began her career in corporate for profit accounting and transitioned to the Non-Profit sector in 2013. 

 

 

 

Education Director and Volunteer Coordinator
Carol Fusco

Education Director, Carol Fusco, has worked as a class room teacher, Behavior Management Specialist, zoo educator, and head of the Bergen County Zoo Education Department. Carol has presented at several national conferences, served on the AZA SAFE Monarch Committee, and trained to become the Zoo Bee Keeper Coordinator, helping to maintain four active colonies. After 18 years with the Zoo, Carol decided to change her career focus to one of local conservation education and joined the Flat Rock Brook team in 2022.

 

 

 

Naturalist
Marquis Gordon

Marquis is a Naturalist at Flat Rock Brook who specializes in education, summer camp, and guided hikes. He has been working at Flat Rock Brook in different capacities since 2019, when he first started as an apprentice. This time at Flat Rock Brook has grown a deep love of nature and educating people within him.

 

 

 

Land Steward
Cameron Kanterman

Cameron joined Flat Rock Brook as Land Steward in 2022. As part of the Land Resource Management Team, he works on initiatives that support the continued health of the land by using ecologically guided practices. Cameron graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2014 and has been working in land management and environmental education across the tri-state area since 2012 including teaching elementary science in New York City for six years.

Cameron enjoys creating wildlife habitats, camping with his family, restoring vintage bicycles, and tending to his heirloom apple trees.

 
 

Office Manager
Ashe Kulhanek

Ashe is the Office Manager at Flat Rock Brook. She has an MFA in creative writing, editing, and publishing from Sam Houston State University and has experience managing and coordinating busy offices and projects, both in the workplace and as community-growing initiatives. A Texas native, Ashe grew up on a farm surrounded by nature and found Flat Rock Brook in 2021 after a move across the country left her looking to reconnect with the natural world. She is excited and enthusiastic to assist in the development and maintenance of Flat Rock Brook’s important work.

She enjoys writing, swimming, video games, and hiking.

 

 

 

Communications Manager
Satig Mesropian

Satig is the Communications Manager at Flat Rock Brook. She has worked in various media in both private, public and not-for-profit settings, including managing a website for the City of New York, writing copy for a design company and creating original graphics for educators and musicians. Satig “discovered” Flat Rock during 2020 and became a frequent visitor, a volunteer and is now enthusiastic to spread the word about the nature center and the wonderful people — and wildlife — who can be found here.

She enjoys hiking, travel, storytelling and doodling.

Sam Pettigrew

Sam is a Naturalist at Flat Rock Brook who specializes in animal care and education. He works at Flat Rock as well as the Bergen County Zoo. He attends Ramapo College and majors in Environment Studies. Sam has always been fascinated by animals and works to help others understand the role we all play in the environment that we live in.

 

 

 

Land Manager
Catherine Wedgbury

Catherine, an Englewood resident, is the Land and Operations manager at Flat Rock Brook. She graduated from the  New York Botanical Garden’s School of Professional Horticulture in 2020. Prior to joining Flat Rock Brook, she worked for at the Perfect Earth Project which promotes planting native plants to encourage biodiversity, removing invasive species  and maintaining toxic free landscapes.  Catherine graduated from the Bergen County Masters Gardener’ s Program in 2017 and has volunteered at many public  gardens and  parks across New Jersey. She hopes to progress Flat Rock Brook’s  plan to restore the forest and increase native biodiversity while providing visitors an engaging and informed experience. In her free time Catherine enjoys playing racquet sports and traveling with her family.

 

 

 

Executive Director
Stephen Wiessner

Steve is responsible for the overall management of Flat Rock Brook. He’s been the Nature Center’s director since 2006 and joined us from the Greater Newark Conservancy, where he was Program Director. He has extensive management experience and holds a Master's degree in Environmental Policy Studies from NJIT and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental and Business Economics from Rutgers University.
