Docents act as weekend support for visitors to Flat Rock Brook. Stationed in the nature center, docents answer questions visitors may have regarding trails, the exhibit room, and the organization in general.
Flat Rock Brook will provide training on questions that are likely to arise during interaction with visitors. Though our exhibit room is designed to be self-guided, we will train docents to have a thorough understanding of topics covered in the exhibit room so they might engage with visitors that have an interest in deeper learning.
Docents may also be trained to use Discovery Carts—carts designed for hands-on learning with rotating topics throughout the year. These carts will have tactile displays designed for visitors to engage with a particular topic. Docents will be trained to answer questions, encourage visitors as they learn, and maintain the cart throughout the day.
Docents must be 18+ years old. It is preferred that docents are able to stick to a regular schedule to ensure that they can be confident with material and able to answer questions. Proficiency in Spanish, Korean or other languages a plus! Staff will always be on-site to assist docents. Docents assist during our regular weekend hours; Saturday and Sunday from 1-5pm.
