Flat Rock Brook held its 8th Annual 5K trail run and new 1-mile Family Walk on Sunday, August 4th.  A beautiful summer morning greeted our 125 runners and attending families.

After a brief street run, 5K participants entered our preserve for a challenging and rewarding run on our forested trails.  Board member Scott Reddin energized the crowd with his dee jay and emcee talents.  Englewood's own Mayor Michael Wildes sounded the starting signal for the race and mingled with the group.  Our lead male runner, Andres Dutan, clocked in at 21:26.2.  Tanya Marion took the top women's position at 25:07.1.  We presented medals in a variety of categories soon after the last runner crossed the finish line.

After the run, families set out on a guided nature walk that traveled streamside and through our forest. After their 1-mile journey, families were treated to a live birds of prey program presented by naturalist Siena Stucki.  Kids and their parents got a chance to see several species of owls, a Red-tailed Hawk, and an American Kestrel.  The program teaches about the importance of these amazing birds.

Thanks to all who participated in our events.  Proceeds from the run will support the Flat Rock Brook Nature Center.

Our 5K is sanctioned by the USATF.
